Anti-wrinkle injections is one of the most commonly performed treatments for a while now. Over the years, anti-wrinkle treatments have been improving, offering more and more benefits. More commonly known as Botox injections, anti-wrinkle injections have a wide range of benefits that heavily outweigh any side effects.
One of the main benefits, and arguably the most popular, of anti-wrinkle treatment is the ability to reduce frown lines, crow’s feet and all types of other facial wrinkles.
Injectable treatments do this by using toxins that relax the muscles in your face to promote anti-ageing properties. When the facial muscles are relaxed this allows wrinkles, like lines on the forehead, to be smoothed out and loosen the skin safely and effectively.

Quick results.
They do not take long to start working and most of our clients have noticeable results shortly after treatment.
No downtime.
The treatment is extremely simple and does not take long at all. At River Mill Aesthetics, we administer several non-invasive injections in and around the trouble area taking around 30 minutes depending on how many areas need treatment. This means you can have the treatment before, during or after the working day, with little disruption to your day.
Before we start, it is important to understand the different types of wrinkles, where they are on our faces, and how we came to get them in the first place. Wrinkles are classified as being either dynamic or static. Dynamic means that they are due to repeated facial movements, for example laughing or frowning. Static wrinkles are simply due to a loss of gravity or elasticity, often a sign of ageing.
Some of the most common types of wrinkles that can appear include:
- Frown lines – These run across the forehead horizontally along the top of the T zone.
- ‘Worry’ lines – These are wrinkles that create an ’11’ between your brows.
- ‘Bunnies’ – These are wrinkles at the bridge of your nose, horizontally between your eyes.
- Crows feet – These are found on the outside corners of the eyes.
- Laugh lines – These are the lines from the side of the nose leading down to the edge of your mouth.
- Lip lines – These are the small vertical lines above your top lip.
- Marionette lines – As cheeks start to droop these wrinkles begin to form below your lips.
- Platysmal bands (Neck) – The muscles that span from our clavicles to the lower part of the face that become wrinkled over time.
- Chin dimpling – When chin muscles contract over time, this can cause wrinkles and creases to appear.
These are the most common types of wrinkles that our patients will often look to have treated. If any of the above sound like something that you would like to have treated with anti wrinkle injections, get in touch.
Now, we know what you’re thinking, use of needles automatically equals pain. Even a simple flu injection can cause a bit of a sting. However, with regards to anti wrinkle injections, the needle used by our specialists is so fine that you are unlikely to feel anything more than a light pinch to the treated area.
There is very little to no pain during treatment, however we can apply a topical numbing cream if needed. The analgesic that we offer for local anaesthetic are topical ( cream). The injections are done with a very small needle and almost all our patients can tolerate this with no problems, so the above should not be necessary.
If you are considering Botox or anti-wrinkle injections, it is important to be fully aware of the potential side effects that may occur. Although these injections can cause side effects, they are often temporary and kept to the area where the injection occurred.
The most common side effects of anti-wrinkle injections include:
- Redness
- Bruising
- Swelling
- Facial pain
- Headache and nausea
- Muscle weakness
As previously mentioned, all of the above are temporary side affects and will often only last for a few days. As with most cosmetic treatments, we would recommend a consultation to inform you of the potential risks before your first injection.
Cosmetic anti wrinkle injections last between 3-6 months. Results are visible after one treatment, but aesthetics do vary between patients depending on how quickly your body metabolises the toxin.
Anti wrinkle injections usually take around 10 minutes, but will vary depending on the area being treated and the amount of anti-wrinkle solution being used. This procedure is available to adults over the age of 18, and requires a full consultation prior to treatment.
Cosmetic anti-wrinkle treatments can give you smooth skin no matter where you carry stress, or where your skin loses laxity first. This can include:
- Forehead
- Crows feet
- Cheeks
- Gums
- Lips
- Nose
- Chin
- Nostrils
- Neck
- Jaw
